Internship
Expressing a secure platform
I came to BlackBerry at an interesting time. The HUB+ Suite apps just went through a visual update. The team was looking for ways to make the HUB+ Suite be more seamlessly tied with each other. It was fun exploring the relationship between the apps and how they could work together like ecosystem as well as maintaining the feeling of being secure.

At BlackBerry I mainly worked on the HUB+ Suite apps, mainly the onboarding experience for the new BlackBerry Launcher. There were challenges revolving around integrating with Android OS and upgrading to the new launcher.
Some other projects that I worked on are: creating short animations, wallpapers, and creating a "secure" experience for the users.
BlackBerry created a new launcher, however the problem is that the users need to download the new launcher and migrate data from the old one. We had to figure out a seamless way to transition the existing BlackBerry Launcher one users to BlackBerry Launcher 2 users.
BlackBerry recently acquired SecuSuite, a call/messaging app that the US government uses. While the back end of the app may be secure, the app’s UI makes users feel that the app is not secure. There were many UI and functional flaws, such as connecting with other users was very difficult. Our goal was to create an app that users feel safe using as well as it actually being secure for government use.

I worked really closely with the Senior UX Designer at BlackBerry, he was my mentor and gave me great feedback on my work. He was really supportive and made sure I felt comfortable in the work I was doing. We also had road trips once a month going from the Mississauga campus to the Waterloo campus to meet with the other half of our design team!
