Designing the onboarding experience

customer journey map touchpoints and interaction

summary

Worked closely with a UX Designer, UX researcher, Offering manager, Design lead and Design strategist to create an onboarding experience for IBM Cognos Analytics. Our goal was to make the experience consistent with each part of the product by using IBM’s design language, Carbon.

I created low fidelity mockups, and with feedback from the team, I iterated and created high fidelity mock-ups. Then I created an Invision prototype to better demonstrate to our stakeholders the flow of the screens and intention behind each design decision.

My Experience at IBM

At IBM, I got to explore many different projects and work with many people with different roles. I understood the importance of communication and transparency. At IBM, we started the design process with as many stakeholders as we can that are involved in the project. Then we continued to update them when we progressed with the designs. This way, everyone is in the loop about the design decisions made and when the final product is made they won’t be surprised about certain elements in the design. We got a really good responses from the team we worked with, and throughout the process they gave feedback as well, allowing the designs to be more accurate each step of the way.

I got good exposure to a lot of different people and work habits. I felt that I grew as an individual by being more proactive and pushing for the product to keep moving forward. It’s also great that the teams I worked with listened to what I had to say even though I was an intern and supported me when I had questions or had blockers.
